Tricker’s 190th Anniversary Tramping Boot
A Special Boot for a Special Year
To celebrate our 190th anniversary in 2019, we have produced a special limited edition tramping boot.
Built on a new last we named the 190, this exclusive edition is made with English ‘cruiser upper’ leather from Pittards and an oak bark tanned leather sole made in rural Devon by J&FJ Baker & Co. A combination of English heritage, innovation and craftsmanship from top to toe.
The Design - Tricker’s
The Tramping boot is a part of Tricker’s heritage, made traditionally for pursuits in the British countryside.
For our 190th year, we have brought back this boot from our archive and built it on a newly commissioned 190 last.
Each boot is made by hand in our Northampton factory carefully constructed over 260 individual processes.
The boot is hand lasted to ensure the leather is pulled down to the true shape of the 190 last. This will ensure the shape is retained for ever. The construction makes this a boot within a boot: made with a double vamp and counters, it is whole cut and perfectly smooth with a seamless inside. The upper is stitched in 80’s thread and a 12 inch needle for a more refined finish.
The 190 Last - Spring Line
Based in Northampton, Spring Line is the only last maker left in England.
The special 190 last was developed with Spring Line and is inspired from an original knuckle toe last dating back to 1926.
Created by hand, Spring Line is renowned throughout the world as the finest last makers.
Sizing - the 190 last is true to a UK standard foot size.
The Leather - Pittards
One of the last tanners in England, Pittards was originally part of the Northampton shoe trade. After moving to Yeovil, England, Pittards opened in 1826 when Charles Pittard began operating as a local leather dresser.
The Tramping boot is cut from the finest English ‘cruiser upper’ leather. It was selected for its combination of comfort, durability and finish - the exact ingredients required for the boot’s purpose.
The Sole - J&FJ Baker & Co
To compliment the 190 boot, we went to J&FJ Baker & Co for the oak bark tanned leather sole.
As Britain’s only remaining traditional oak bark tannery, J&FJ Baker & Co bought this Devonshire tannery in 1862. Interestingly, the site has been a tannery since Roman times and still remains a family business to this day.
Oak bark tannage is a long and gentle process that protects the natural fibres of the hide. Unlike modern methods, it takes fourteen months and a sustainable process to produce each durable leather sole.

Our ‘190’ socks were designed and handmade by Corgi exclusively for Tricker’s to celebrate our 190th anniversary.
Traditional country socks made from 100% cotton are the perfect accompaniment to all our country footwear, and particularly our special limited edition 190 Tramping Boot.
Founded in 1892 Welsh draper Rhys Jones, Corgi socks is also a fellow Royal Warrant holder to HRH The Prince of Wales. From the beginning, Rhys paid close attention to detail and quality. As their reputation grew, demand spread across South Wales and beyond.
