Ray Burn - Welt Sewer

Ray Burn - Welt Sewer

How long have your worked at Tricker's?

12 years.

Tell us about yourself?

Originally from Islington in London, I moved to Northampton with my family in the mid-70s.

I did a three years City & Guild course in footwear at Wellingborough College and went straight into the footwear industry after leaving college in 1979.

Do you have any hobbies?

My wife and I like to travel.

Have you worked in other departments?

I mainly worked in the Lasting and Making Rooms. However, I have been a welt sewer since 1987.

What makes you proud about working for England’s oldest shoemaker?

I am truly proud that Tricker’s footwear is not only made by hand, but that everything is made completely here in our Northampton shoe factory.

Also, that Tricker’s is owned by an English family.

Which is your favourite Tricker’s shoe or boot and why?

The Henry pull-on country boot is a classic and easy to wear.

What has been your biggest highlight working at Tricker’s?

There are many things that have happened in the twelve years I have worked at Tricker’s, but the visit earlier this year by HRH Prince Charles has to be the biggest highlight for me. I was amazed to see how much time he spent with the staff asking us about our jobs. He was also very funny.
