The son of Walter Barltrop, born in 1869, Ernest was incredibly involved in the evolving design of our footwear. He devoted his life to making the name “Tricker’s” stand for the highest quality shoes and boots.
Tricker's was founded by Joseph Tricker, who aged nineteen was already a master shoemaker and set up his handmade shoe company.
Tricker’s has its first female bespoke master shoemaker after 193 years. Adele Williamson is following in the footsteps of generations of supremely skilled and dedicated crafts people.
Tricker’s has held a Royal Warrant with HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles for over 30 years, since 1989.
In 1960 Sir Edmund Hillary made a special commission from Tricker’s for boots to be made for himself and his Himalayan expedition team, for his forthcoming Himalayan geographical ascent of Ama Dablam, a 6,812m mountain.
Born in 1840, Walter was very much ahead of his time and age. At just seven years old, he created a modern boot.
